Learning to meditate is like learning any other skill, like driving a car — you don’t expect to hit the motorway after your first few lessons! Be patient with yourself, and take it slowly and without expecting too much, too quickly.
Also try to avoid judging your meditation. Never look for perfection in your meditation practice, simply keep going from one technique to the next as part of the journey and over time you will see the change. Most of all though, be kind to yourself and remember that we are talking about the body and mind letting go of habits of a lifetime.
